Ground Venison Burritos


Burritos are one of my favorite foods, as you can put basically anything in them. Whatever you like and a little bit of browned up meat, wrap it in a tortilla, and you’ve got a great meal – even on the go. After I started hunting and I had a lot of Ground Venison on hand, I needed to figure out a way to use it all. It didnt take me long to figure out that it was a great substitute for ground beef, and I quickly started using it everywhere I used ground beef. It didnt take long for me to give ground venison burritos a try.

I find venison burritos a great way to make some use of all the ground venison that I end up with after the season is over. There is usually so much of it, and I can only stand the same thing for so long. I love the variety that different ground venison recipes provide, because I dont want to eat the same thing over and over. And dont worry, I dont keep it all to myself – I end up giving lots of ground venison to friends.

These ground venison burritos are a great way to enjoy your ground venison and will get everyone back in line for seconds. If you’re not a fan of black beans, go ahead and substitute them for refried beans. Consider adding guacamole to your burritos, or smothering them with a bit of pork green chile.

Ground Venison Burritos

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Venison
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 large soft tortillas
  • 2 1/2 cups Black Beans
  • 1 cup brown rice, cooked
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Lettuce (Shredded

Instructions

  • Add the olive oil to the pan with the ground venison and spices (salt, cumin and chili powder), and cook until browned
    While the venison is browning, combine the black beans and rice and heat them until warm
    Microwave tortillas for 30 seconds to warm them up
    Once everything is ready, assemble your burritos. I typically put the rice and beans in first, then the venison, then I top it off with sour cream, cheddar cheese and salsa

If you like guacamole, feel free to add it as a topping as well – it’s one of my favorites.
